Happy Birthday Richard Gere!

To read your own mind is to look at your self and read your soul. Hatred becomes love and that is the path I am working on.

People's reaction to opera the first time they hear it is extreme, ... They either love it or they hate it. If they love it, they will always love it. If they don't, they may learn to love it, but it will never become part of their soul.

What's the biggest problem here? ... Food, water?

I'm totally shocked. I never win anything. And I didn't even want to do this movie!

If we do this work now, we may save 10, 15 million lives. It gives you a lot of focus. I mean, how many things in your life can you do that have that kind of impact?

The secret of my success is my hairspray.

Journalismus ist Literatur als Schnellgericht.

Maybe if we could find some genuine humor in this and then find a way to work together to change the situation as it is, then it would certainly make me happy.

Why is it when we have 10 million people in this country who say 'No', we still have a president who says 'Yes.' In a democracy, something's wrong here.

We've had too many World AIDS Days.

I cry every chance I get.

Happy Birthday Chris Hadfield! (I know it was yesterday)

Decide in your heart of hearts what really excites and challenges you, and start moving your life in that direction. Every decision you make, from what you eat to what you do with your time tonight, turns you into who you are tomorrow, and the day after that. Look at who you want to be, and start sculpting yourself into that person. You may not get exactly where you thought you'd be, but you will be doing things that suit you in a profession you believe in. Don't let life randomly kick you into the adult you don't want to become.

Early success is a terrible teacher. You're essentially being rewarded for a lack of preparation, so when you find yourself in a situation where you must prepare, you can't do it. You don't know how.

Sweat the small stuff. Without letting anyone see you sweat.

In my experience, fear comes from not knowing what to expect and not feeling you have any control over what’s about to happen. When you feel helpless, you’re far more afraid than you would be if you knew the facts.

If you start thinking that only your biggest and shiniest moments count, you're setting yourself up to feel like a failure most of the time.

Life off Earth is in two important respects not at all unworldly: you can choose to focus on the surprises and pleasures, or the frustrations. And you can choose to appreciate the smallest scraps of experience, the everyday moments, or to value only the grandest, most stirring ones.

It’s not enough to shelve your own competitive streak. You have to try, consciously, to help others succeed.

We broke into Mir using a Swiss Army knife. Never leave the planet without one.

Good leadership means leading the way, not hectoring other people to do things your way.

I wasn’t destined to be an astronaut. I had to turn myself into one.

Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.

Happy Birthday Sir Sean Connery!

There is nothing like a challenge to bring out the best in man.

Alte Männer, die jungen Mädchen hinterherjagen, tun mir leid.

I met my wife through playing golf. She is French and couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak French, so there was little chance of us getting involved in any boring conversations - that's why we got married really quickly.

I admit I'm being paid well, but it's no more than I deserve. After all, I've been screwed more times than a hooker.

I haven't found anywhere in the world where I want to be all the time. The best of my life is the moving. I look forward to going.

There's always a new challenge to keep you motivated.

Love may not make the world go round, but I must admit that it makes the ride worthwhile.

I am not an Englishman, I was never an Englishman, and I don't ever want to be one. I am a Scotsman! I was a Scotsman and I will always be one.

I'm swimming every day and I'm even trying to get the golf swing working again - but that might take a little bit longer.

Happy Birthday Tim Burton!

One person's craziness is another person's reality.

Everything in this room is edible. Even I'm edible. But, that would be called canibalism. It is looked down upon in most societies.

Visions are worth fighting for. Why spend your life making someone else's dreams?

Good morning starshine the earth says hello....

I am the shadow on the moon at night/Filling your dreams to the brim with fright.

When you don’t have many friends and you don’t have a social life you’re kind of left looking at things, not doing things. There’s a weird freedom in not having people treat you like you’re part of society or where you have to fulfill social relationships

Movies are like an expensive form of therapy for me.

People told me I couldn't kill Nicholson, so I cast him in two roles and killed him off twice.

My name is Jimmy, but my friends just call me the hideous penguin boy.

I have a problem when people say something's real or not real, or normal or abnormal. The meaning of those words for me is very personal and subjective. I've always been confused and never had a clearcut understanding of the meaning of those kinds of words.

I've always been misrepresented. You know, I could dress in a clown costume and laugh with the happy people but they'd still say I'm a dark personality.

Half the fun is plan to plan.

I wouldn't know a good script if it bit me in the face.

R.I.P Sir Richard Attenborough!

There's nothing more important in making movies than the screenplay.

I am passionately opposed to capital punishment, and I have been all my life.

At my age the only problem is with remembering names. When I call everyone darling, it has damn all to do with passionately adoring them, but I know I'm safe calling them that. Although, of course, I adore them too.

I think it is obscene that we should believe that we are entitled to end somebody's life, no matter what that person has supposedly done or not done.

And I believe we need heroes, I believe we need certain people who we can measure our own shortcomings by.

I'm a passionate trade unionist.

I prefer fact to fiction.

I don't read a great deal of fiction, to my shame, other than the classics.

Happy Birthday Ephraim Kishon!

When you start looking like the photo in your passport you definitely need to see a doctor.

Snobs are poor copies of a misunderstood original.

Snobs sind schlechte Kopien eines mißverstandenen Originals.

Sagen Sie jetzt nichts!

Ein Klavier, ein Klavier.

Da hab ich was Eigenes.

Happy Birthday Peter James!

All men lie. That's how they operate. if you want a longterm relationship with a man you've got to understand it's going to be with a liar. It's in their nature - it's genetic, it's a bloody Darwinian acquired characteristic for survival, OK? They tell you what they want you to hear.

Branson ate his salad, and left the rest of his fish untouched, while Grace tucked into his steak and kidney pudding with relish. 'I read a while ago,' he told Branson, 'that the French drink more red wine than the English but live longer. The Japanese eat more fish than the English but drink less wine and live longer. The Germans eat more red meat than the English, and drink more beer and they live longer too. You know the moral of this story?
'No'
'It's not what you eat or drink - it's speaking English that kills you.'

The world is changing and people don't like change.

John Lennon had said 'Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans.' That sure as hell was true.

I'm sure that's when you really know you are happy - when you wake up wanting to embrace your future, rather than trying to squirm away from your past.

That's the one good thing about the human brain, it constantly revises the past, cutting bits here, adding bits there, presenting it in an even more palatable way - the way we would have liked things to have been, rather than the way they really are.

We're not very good as a species at looking into the future. It's much easier to look back at the past. We can edit out the bits we don't like, reinvent ourselves. But there's nothing about the future we can edit or reinvent. Most people are prisoners of the future just as much as they are prisoners of their genes.

The world is a dangerous place (...) There will always be blurred boundaries. There are plenty of good bad guys and bad good guys. Life's not clear and it's seldom fair (...) I don't want our child growing up under the illusion that it is. Shit happens.

Most of us have one BIG IDEA at some point in our lives. That Eureka! moment. It comes to us all in different ways, often by chance of serendipity.

Happy Birthday Jonathan Frakes!

Shields up! Rrrrred alert!

Fact or fiction!

I've always thought that we, as human beings, would be naive and arrogant to pretend that we're the only life form in the galaxy.

I always enjoyed going into the holodeck.

I think Star Trek has been very double-edged for all of us - as actors, writers, directors.

I think that I've been pigeon-holed by virtue of the fact that I've spent so much time in front of a green screen.

I think, frankly, that I'm a better director than I was an actor.

I think, unfortunately or fortunately, the reality of Hollywood is that if your movie makes money, they'll make another one.

I like contemporary American literature and I like biographies and I like jazz and I like baseball and I like writers who write about the human condition and sci-fi is just something that I happened into.

If the prime directives were followed a little more accurately here on earth, I mean it sounds somewhat Pollyanna, but I think people would certainly get along better.

I was told during the first season by the late, great Gene Rodenberry that he wanted Riker to have a Gary Cooper stance and presence and never to smile. It's very hard for me not to smile so I spent the first season being very rigid – and you can see it in the show – Riker's really stiff and rigid, trying desperately not to smile and finally I think Gene, and other people who leapt in, said maybe we should let a little more Frakes seep into Riker.

I think enjoying it helps. I don't think there's any reason to be an actor unless you feel deep in your soul that you have to be, because it's not a career that one can count on working in or making a living at.

When I was younger I fancied the idea of being a jazz trombone player -- playing all those wonderful standards night after night -- and before that I wanted to be a psychiatrist. But now, I'd be happy to just have a bait shop.

I'm very proud of having been a part of [Star Trek], and it is what has allowed me to do what I'm doing now. It was 18 years of our lives and it has given all of us some wonderful things, not the least of which is our friendships.

I don't think you ever leave Star Trek for good.

Happy Birthday Gene Roddenberry!

The Strength of a civilization is not measured by its ability to fight wars, but rather by its ability to prevent them.

We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.

If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear.

Star Trek was an attempt to say that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate, but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. […] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.

It is the struggle itself that is most important. We must strive to be more than we are. It does not matter that we will not reach our ultimate goal. The effort itself yields its own reward.

It isn't all over; everything has not been invented; the human adventure is just beginning.

For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain. If people need religion, ignore them and maybe they will ignore you, and you can go on with your life. It wasn't until I was beginning to do Star Trek that the subject of religion arose. What brought it up was that people were saying that I would have a chaplain on board the Enterprise. I replied, "No, we don't.

It speaks to some basic human needs, that there is a tomorrow -- it's not all going to be over in a big flash and a bomb, that the human race is improving, that we have things to be proud of as humans. No, ancient astronauts did not build the pyramids -- human beings built them because they're clever and they work hard. And Star Trek is about those things.

Time is the fire in which we burn.

Reality is incredibly larger, infinitely more exciting, than the flesh and blood vehicle we travel in here. If you read science fiction, the more you read it the more you realize that you and the universe are part of the same thing. Science knows still practically nothing about the real nature of matter, energy, dimension, or time; and even less about those remarkable things called life and thought. But whatever the meaning and purpose of this universe, you are a legitimate part of it. And since you are part of the all that is, part of its purpose, there is more to you than just this brief speck of existence. You are just a visitor here in this time and this place, a traveler through it.

These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five year mission ... to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Happy Birthday Robert De Niro!

I go to Paris, I go to London, I go to Rome, and I always say, 'There's no place like New York. It's the most exciting city in the world now. That's the way it is. That's it.

You learned the two greatest thing in life, never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut.

You'll have time to rest when you're dead.

Time goes on. So whatever you're going to do, do it. Do it now. Don't wait.

One of the things about acting is it allows you to live other people's lives without having to pay the price.

I think Hollywood has a class system. The actors are like the inmates, but the truth is they're running the asylum.

I always tell actors when they go in for an audition: Don't be afraid to do what your instincts tell you. You may not get the part, but people will take notice.

I love to find new people. It's not for the sake of their being new; it's because if you find someone who perfectly fits a part, that's such a great thing.

The talent is in the choices.

Happy Birthday Steve Martin!

A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.

You know what your problem is, it's that you haven't seen enough movies - all of life's riddles are answered in the movies.

Boy, those French: they have a different word for everything!

Chaos in the midst of chaos isn't funny, but chaos in the midst of order is.

I like a woman with a head on her shoulders. I hate necks.

I realized that comedians of the day were operating on jokes and punch lines. The moment you say the punch line, the audience either laughs sincerely or they laugh automatically or they don't laugh. The thing that bothered me was that automatic laugh. I said, that's not real laughter.

I think I meant that, given the circumstances of my childhood, I had the illusion that it's easier to be alone. To have your relationships be casual and also to pose as a solitary person, because it was more romantic. You know, I was raised on the idea of the ramblin' man and the loner.

I wish I could do a lot of things different. I'm not going to tell you what they are, but if I had a list of all my films right now, I'd go, 'Okay, I'll cross that one out and cross that one out and cross that one out and cross that one out.' Really. But I've made over 40 films. How can I not have some losers in there?

I really enjoy finding the right word, creating a good, flowing sentence. I enjoy the rhythm of the words.

Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.

Be so good they can't ignore you.

A celebrity is any well-known TV or movie star who looks like he spends more than two hours working on his hair.

Happy Birthday Alfred Hitchcock!

There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.

Luck is everything... My good luck in life was to be a really frightened person. I'm fortunate to be a coward, to have a low threshold of fear, because a hero couldn't make a good suspense film.

A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it.

For me, the cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake.

Give them pleasure - the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
The more successful the villain, the more successful the picture.
The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.
Give them pleasure - the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
If it's a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on.
Revenge is sweet and not fattening.

A lot of movies are about life, mine are like a slice of cake.

Someone once told me that every minute a murder occurs, so I don't want to waste your time, I know you want to go back to work.

Some of our most exquisite murders have been domestic, performed with tenderness in simple, homey places like the kitchen table.

Self-plagiarism is style.

Television is like the American toaster; you push the button and the same things pops up every time.

13. August 1961 - Happy Berlin Wall! Berliner Mauerbau!

The Berlin Wall wasn't the only barrier to fall after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. Traditional barriers to the flow of money, trade, people and ideas also fell.
Fareed Zakaria

Walter Ulbricht

It's always the small people who change things. It's never the politicians or the big guys. I mean, who pulled down the Berlin wall? It was all the people in the streets. The specialists didn't have a clue the day before.
Luc Besson

Willy Brandt

When the Berlin Wall came down the Americans cried, 'Victory,' and walked off the field.
Paul Keating

John F. Kennedy

The Berlin Wall go down, that was the most wonderful thing that could happen, absolutely. I celebrated with everybody in Berlin that day when the Wall was down.
Nana Mouskouri

All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin. And therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words 'Ich bin ein Berliner!'
John F. Kennedy

Erich Honecker

Mister Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
Ronald Reagan

Herr Gorbatschow, reißen Sie diese Mauer ein!
Ronald Reagan

I find it a bit sad that there is no photo of me hanging on the walls in the Berlin Museum at Checkpoint Charlie.
David Hasselhoff

(...) Meines Wissens ab sofort.
Günter Schabowski

People of Berlin - people of the world - this is our moment. This is our time.
Barack Obama

Rest in Peace Robin Williams!

You gave me a lifetime of laughter...

You gave us quotes...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/11/robin-williams-quotes_n_5670365.html?&ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000067

You are loved and will be missed.

“Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.”
Barack Obama

You had a big brain and a big heart.

Goodbye and thank you, Robin.

My prayers and thoughts go out to his family.

Writing is not chewing your nails and picking your teeth, but a matter of public interest.

One encounters very capable fathers abashed by their piano-playing daughters. Three measures of Schumann make them red with embarrassment.

Much unhappiness comes from walking alone. When there are several, it's somewhat different. I must get into the habit of listening to others, for what the others say concerns me, too.

So I will not go on shouting as once I did: Fate, Fate! It's no use revering it merely as Fate, we must look at it, grasp it, and destroy it.

The world is made of sugar and dirt.

And if you ask again whether there is any justice in the world, you'll have to be satisfied with the reply: Not for the time being; at any rate, not up to this Friday.

But the main things about a man are his eyes and his feet. He should be able to see the world and go after it.

My books, at any rate, deserved to be burned.

Franz now peddles racist newspapers. He is not against the Jews, but he is for law and order. For law and order must reign in Paradise; which everyone should recognize.

The way leads to freedom, to freedom it goes. The old world must crumble. Awake, wind of dawn!

No country is so peaceful as the one that leads into death. Life arches above one's head like a bridgespan, and below it flows the water, carries the boat, takes it further.

Happy Birthday Jan Josef Liefers!

No more A-bombs! No more Hiroshima and Nagasaki!

The nuclear arms race is like two sworn enemies standing waist deep in gasoline, one with three matches, the other with five.
Carl Sagan

The release of atomic energy has not created a new problem. It has merely made more urgent the necessity of solving an existing one.
Albert Einstein

The atomic bomb made the prospect of future war unendurable. It has led us up those last few steps to the mountain pass; and beyond there is a different country.
Robert Oppenheimer

I do not believe that civilization will be wiped out in a war fought with the atomic bomb. Perhaps two-thirds of the people of the earth will be killed.
Albert Einstein

When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and you argue about what to do about it only after you have had your technical success. That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.
Robert Oppenheimer

Kelly Family says Sorry!

Albert Einstein

Happy Birthday Hans Moser

Happy Birthday Neil Armstrong!

This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand.

Research is creating new knowledge.

Forschung erschafft neues Wissen.

Pilots take no special joy in walking. Pilots like flying.

Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon. July 1969 AD. We came in peace for all mankind.

Happy Birthday Mr President!

I don´t know I can do it, but, Happy Birthday Barack Obama!

Dear NSA, quotes aren´t codes.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

We need to steer clear of this poverty of ambition, where people want to drive fancy cars and wear nice clothes and live in nice apartments but don't want to work hard to accomplish these things. Everyone should try to realize their full potential.

It was the labor movement that helped secure so much of what we take for granted today. The 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, family leave, health insurance, Social Security, Medicare, retirement plans. The cornerstones of the middle-class security all bear the union label.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I, therefore, intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt.

There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. There is not a black America and a white America and latino America and asian America - there's the United States of America.

The shift to a cleaner energy economy wont happen overnight, and it will require tough choices along the way. But the debate is settled. Climate change is a fact.

As a nuclear power - as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon - the United States has a moral responsibility to act.

In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world.

We can't get to the $4 trillion in savings that we need by just cutting the 12 percent of the budget that pays for things like medical research and education funding and food inspectors and the weather service. And we can't just do it by making seniors pay more for Medicare.

Happy Birthday Louis Armstrong!

Musicians don't retire; they stop when there's no more music in them.

If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know.

All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song.

There is two kinds of music, the good, and the bad. I play the good kind.

What we play is life.

You blows who you is.

We all do 'do, re, mi,' but you have got to find the other notes yourself.
