Seven of Nine: You will be assimilated.
Neelix: No time for that now. Maybe later.
Vielen Dank, Mister Vulkanier.
The Doctor: Until I'm certain the damaged tissue can function independently, you'll have to be injected with nanoprobes on a daily basis.
Neelix: Well, as long as I don't start... uh... assimilating the crew or sprouting Borg implants, I... I'm sure I can live with it.
Spart Zeit!
Seven of Nine: The Borg encountered a Kazon colony in the Gand Sector, grid 6920.
Neelix: Were they assimilated?
Seven of Nine: Their biological and technological distinctiveness was unremarkable. They were unworthy of assimilation.
Neelix: I didn't realize the Borg were so discriminating.
Seven of Nine: Why assimilate a species that would detract from perfection?
Neelix: I've been resting for two days straight, and resting makes me feel, well, restless.
Seven of Nine: These nutritional supplements are unacceptable.
Neelix: What's wrong?
Seven of Nine: They are pungent.
Neelix: That's the whole idea. I've been adding Talaxian spices to broaden your palate.
Seven of Nine: My palate is sufficiently broad.
Neelix: Nothing.
Chakotay: What?
Neelix: I died, and there was nothing. There was no one there. No Forest.
Chakotay: Forest?
Neelix: The Great Forest. The afterlife. I was taught that when I died, my ancestors would be there, waiting for me by the Guiding Tree. My sisters, my mother and father, my cousins, everyone who was killed in the war. I took great comfort in knowing that we'd all be together again one day. But it's not true.
Chakotay: Don't throw away a lifetime of faith because of one anomalous incident. Death is still the greatest mystery there is.
Neelix: I was there. I experienced it. There was nothing.
Seven of Nine: You are a peculiar creature, Neelix.
Neelix: Thanks. I think.
That's what's going to happen to all of us - like a hologram we just disappear into nothing.
I don't really like the idea of Borg technology swimming around inside me.
Live? Oh, is that what I am doing right now, living? I'm beginning to wonder.
Well, what right did you have to violate me? You Borg think you can fix anything, but you didn't fix me!
Duty calls.
That Neelix is gone.
Eleven years ago, I saw my world in ruins... my family murdered. All that's kept me going is knowing that one day we'd be together again. That I'd see them again. But it's not true. And I can't live without that hope.
Seven, I think you've made a wonderful addition to this crew. I know it's been difficult for you making the transition from Borg back to human, or half-human... or whatever it is you become. Actually you're... just plain Seven to me.
I guess I just want to say... you're surrounded by people who care about you. And whether you know it or not, Voyager is going to be a very good home to you. It certainly was to me.
So, you're saying that if I stay here, and... and try to talk to Tuvok, I might be able to provoke some sort of response?
The chants of the monks of T'Panit! Personally, I think it's dreadful too, but it's one of Tuvok's favorites.
I'm gonna make it my personal mission to get you to dance at least once before we reach Earth.
I'm not a fighter. I'm just a cook - who sometimes imagines himself to be a diplomat.
Dinner. Since you can't bring the prisoners to the mess hall, I brought the mess hall to them.
Talaxian spice stew, served over leola rice pilaf. It's an old family recipe.
Alone, exiled, on a planet where the only form of communication... is laughter.
Neelix: Are you sure this rice isn't supposed to be cooked? Steamed? Fried...
The Doctor: The idea is to shower the couple with a symbol of good fortune, not garnish them like a roast chicken.
You sound like a travel brochure.
Live long and prosper, Ethan Neelix Phillips!

Happy Birthday Charles Dickens!
Dignity, and even holiness too, sometimes, are more questions of coat and waistcoat than some people imagine.
Wünsche sind nie klug. Das ist sogar das beste an ihnen.
I only ask to be free. The butterflies are free.
Jährliches Einkommen zwanzig Pfund, jährliche Ausgaben neunzehn Pfund, neunzehn Schilling, sechs Pence, Ergebnis: Glück. Jährliches Einkommen zwanzig Pfund, jährliche Ausgaben zwanzig Pfund, null Schilling und sechs Pence, Ergebnis: Elend.
The one great principle of English law is to make business for itself.
Fan the sinking flame of hilarity with the wing of friendship; and pass the rosy wine.
Great men are seldom over-scrupulous in the arrangement of their attire.
Charity begins at home, and justice begins next door.
He had but one eye and the pocket of prejudice runs in favor of two.
Bring in the bottled lightning, a clean tumbler, and a corkscrew.
Although a skillful flatterer is a most delightful companion if you have him all to yourself, his taste becomes very doubtful when he takes to complimenting other people.
Papa, potatoes, poultry, prunes and prism, are all very good words for the lips.
'Do you spell it with a 'V' or a 'W'?' inquired the judge. 'That depends upon the taste and fancy of the speller, my Lord'.
I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.
The civility which money will purchase, is rarely extended to those who have none.
I know I do not exaggerate, unconsciously and unintentionally, the scantiness of my resources and the difficulty of my life... I know that, but for the mercy of God, I might easily have been, for any care that was taken of me, a little robber or a vagabond.
Also weine ruhig.
Regrets are the natural property of grey hairs.
No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.
It is a melancholy truth that even great men have their poor relations.
There is a wisdom of the head, and a wisdom of the heart.
That sort of half sigh, which, accompanied by two or three slight nods of the head, is pity's small change in general society.
Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the traveler back to his own fireside and quiet home!
It's my old girl that advises. She has the head. But I never own to it before her. Discipline must be maintained.
There are strings in the human heart that had better not be vibrated.
Renunciation remains sorrow, though a sorrow borne willingly.
Kleinigkeiten machen die Summe des Lebens aus.
An idea, like a ghost, must be spoken to a little before it will explain itself.
We are so very 'umble.
If there were no bad people, there would be no good lawyers.
A day wasted on others is not wasted on one's self.
There are not a few among the disciples of charity who require, in their vocation, scarcely less excitement than the votaries of pleasure in theirs.
There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.
Anything for the quick life, as the man said when he took the situation at the lighthouse.
Die Zeit ruft dem Menschen zu: Vorwärts!
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
It is a pleasant thing to reflect upon, and furnishes a complete answer to those who contend for the gradual degeneration of the human species, that every baby born into the world is a finer one than the last.
To conceal anything from those to whom I am attached, is not in my nature. I can never close my lips where I have opened my heart.
The age of chivalry is past. Bores have succeeded to dragons.
Vices are sometimes only virtues carried to excess!
Cows are my passion. What I have ever sighed for has been to retreat to a Swiss farm, and live entirely surrounded by cows - and china.
Wir müssen zermalmen oder werden zermalmt.
Electric communication will never be a substitute for the face of someone who with their soul encourages another person to be brave and true.
In the little world in which children have their existence, whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice.
Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do it well; whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself completely; in great aims and in small I have always thoroughly been in earnest.
Ich brauche Informationen. Eine Meinung bilde ich mir selbst.
Most men are individuals no longer so far as their business, its activities, or its moralities are concerned. They are not units but fractions.
Christmas time! That man must be a misanthrope indeed, in whose breast something like a jovial feeling is not roused - in whose mind some pleasant associations are not awakened - by the recurrence of Christmas.
There are only two styles of portrait painting; the serious and the smirk.
Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own; and from morning to night, as from the cradle to the grave, it is but a succession of changes so gentle and easy that we can scarcely mark their progress.
A boy's story is the best that is ever told.
Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.
When a man bleeds inwardly, it is a dangerous thing for himself; but when he laughs inwardly, it bodes no good to other people.
A loving heart is the truest wisdom.
Life is made of ever so many partings welded together.
Let us be moral. Let us contemplate existence.
You don't carry in your countenance a letter of recommendation.
May not the complaint, that common people are above their station, often take its rise in the fact of uncommon people being below theirs?
Any man may be in good spirits and good temper when he's well dressed. There ain't much credit in that.
The men who learn endurance, are they who call the whole world, brother.
This is a world of action, and not for moping and droning in.
It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.
Subdue your appetites, my dears, and you've conquered human nature.
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
Little Red Riding Hood was my first love. I felt that if I could have married Little Red Riding Hood, I should have known perfect bliss.
He would make a lovely corpse.
There is nothing so strong or safe in an emergency of life as the simple truth.
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.
It opens the lungs, washes the countenance, exercises the eyes, and softens down the temper; so cry away.
'Tis love that makes the world go round, my baby.
We forge the chains we wear in life.
The first rule of business is: Do other men for they would do you.
There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.
I have known a vast quantity of nonsense talked about bad men not looking you in the face. Don't trust that conventional idea. Dishonesty will stare honesty out of countenance any day in the week, if there is anything to be got by it.
The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.
Oh the nerves, the nerves; the mysteries of this machine called man! Oh the little that unhinges it, poor creatures that we are!
Send forth the child and childish man together, and blush for the pride that libels our own old happy state, and gives its title to an ugly and distorted image.
Home is a name, a word, it is a strong one; stronger than magician ever spoke, or spirit ever answered to, in the strongest conjuration.
I never could have done what I have done without the habits of punctuality, order, and diligence, without the determination to concentrate myself on one subject at a time.
A person who can't pay gets another person who can't pay to guarantee that he can pay. Like a person with two wooden legs getting another person with two wooden legs to guarantee that he has got two natural legs. It don't make either of them able to do a walking-match.
Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many - not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.
Credit is a system whereby a person who can not pay gets another person who can not pay to guarantee that he can pay.

Happy Birthday Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy!
The essence of the beautiful is unity in variety.
Though everything else may appear shallow and repulsive, even the smallest task in music is so absorbing, and carries us so far away from town, country, earth, and all worldly things, that it is truly a blessed gift of God.
There is nothing more certain than things felt and things believed.
I dislike many-sidedness, which, moreover, I rather think I do not much believe in. Anything that aspires to be distinguished, or beautiful, or really great, must be one-sided.
A prophet such as we could use again today, strong, zealous, angry and gloomy in opposition to the leaders, the masses indeed the whole world.
And do you agree with me, that the first condition of an artist should be to bear respect towards what is great, and to bow to it and acknowledge it, and not attempt to extinguish great flames for the sake of making his own rushlight burn more brightly?
Life and art are not two different things...
Ever since I began to compose, I have remained true to my starting principle: not to write a page because no matter what public, or what pretty girl wanted it to be thus or thus; but to write solely as I myself thought best, and as it gave me pleasure.
The essence of the beautiful is unity in variety.
Welch himmlischer Beruf die Kunst ist!
People often complain that music is too ambiguous, that what they should think when they hear it is so unclear, whereas everyone understands words. With me, it is exactly the opposite, and not only with regard to an entire speech but also with individual words.
These seem to me so ambiguous, so vague, so easily misunderstood in comparison to genuine music, which fills the soul with a thousand things better than words.

Happy Birthday Brent Spiner!
Well, I think there are other shows where it's a nightmare every day to come to work.
We did the series for seven years and they colored my hair for seven years. It was not gray when we began but, uh, it was a lighter color than they wanted to go. So they colored it from the very beginning. As soon as we finished the film, I had my hair cut very short to let my own color grow out. And I was surprised as you to see how old my hair had gotten. Fortunately, none of the rest of me did.
I think there is something like 90% unemployment in the Screen Actors Guild, so we are the exception.
Radical surgery is never fun.
The Lindbergh biography is fantastic. I just read it. And I loved it.
Question: Were jokes ever played on the set?
Brent: "We were dignified, serious actors... What's that? (man in audience yells out "Your nose is growing!") Tell you what, in my case that could be tragic!"
I have considered working with George Clooney, but so far, I'm only considering it.
I don't read fiction at all.
Almost everyone has worked at Paramount at one time or another.
I think in all of the time we've used Spot the writers have only written on sentence that was appropriate for Spot. The sentence went: 'Data watches Spot eat tuna out of a bowl.' First take. Boom!, went right to the bowl!
But we laugh all day long! And you can't knock that!
There is no question that everybody who works in show business is lucky because of the number of people who wish they where working in show business.
Question: Do you think non-Trekkers that watched the movie figured out that Data was an android?
Brent: "I think once they opened up my head, it was clear I was not a human being."
Acting is acting.
We'd been on the ship for seven years! But obviously there were a lot of rooms I'd never been in and it wasn't necessary that I see the room prior to the movie. It was a huge platform that was 15 feet in the air; it was like a diving board surrounded from the floor to the ceiling by a blue screen that they projected all those images on. But I'm not great with heights - this is from somebody who has traveled the galaxy - and it moved too, it was not stationary, and as you got closer to the edge of it it started to move. We were up there for two starlit days. Patrick loves heights, of course, and I explained to him when we first got there that I'm really nervous right now and I don't care for heights at all, and for the next two days he started doing this (Brent jumped up and down to demonstrate) and it would start bouncing - it really would! We had no problem with it, but I was terrified the entire time.
I'll tell you what I've been doing. I've been sleeping for about 10 months straight, and it's been good.
Question: Will you do another CD?
Brent: "I probably will. I'm just trying to get to the point where I'm ready to lose a whole bunch more money. I know I'll get there someday, so eventually probably so."
I don't read Science Fiction.
At first, I was reluctant. But then I figured, if it's good enough for Alec Guinness, then it's good enough for me.
I don't really trust someone who doesn't think Laurel and Hardy are funny.
Question: What role have you played that has influenced your perception of yourself more than any other?
Brent: "Bob Wheeler on Night Court changed my perception of myself because I never realized until that moment that a jerk I truly was, and seeing myself on TV opened up a whole world of possibilities."
Yes, Data is hairless but I am not. And we are both anatomically correct.
I don't think I should play Data anymore. I think I'm too old to play him anymore to be honest. I think it would look stupid putting that make-up on me at this point. There certain characters that I think work in a youthful way and I think I really skated along the edge in the last couple movies as it was.
OK. Questions... So, as I always say, feel free to ask me about anything you want, there are just those two little areas I'd like to stay away from - Star Trek and my personal life. Anything else you want to ask me about - names in the news, the OJ trial...
Question: How long did it take to do the make-up?
Brent: "An hour and fifteen minutes the first day, and it took an hour and fifteen minutes on the last day. never fluctuated in the least. It was probably the only down-side of being on the show, because I had to be there at 5:45 every day and there was nobody else there but Michael Westmore, which was very pleasant - he's a very nice guy and a genius makeup artist - but about five minutes to seven Patrick would come breezing in and they'd run a dry mop over his head!"
I think he is an extremely accessible character. In Data there is no potential for cruelty.
Sometimes I go off and er.....(laughs with people laughing in the background)...I er.......(laughs)......I may just go off now as a matter of fact.
I remember the first air conditioner we got was a window unit. I would sit in front of it about 12 hours a day, just looking at it and praying to it – the god of cool air.
My character has a distrust of government as Big Brother, ... He doesn't see why this should be kept secret from the public.
If you look around at the people in show business today they are basically the people who didn't give up.
We're going to discover as time goes on that there is some adversity ... They are not in love with each other. These three guys were essentially shanghaied and made to do this job, whether they want to or not. And they're geniuses, so they have egos. I play a doctor, and I never met a doctor without an ego.
That's the way I looked at it. In terms of the western, absolutely. Star Trek from the beginning; Gene's notion for Star Trek was "Wagon Train to the Stars" that was the whole concept. It is a western. I think all sci-fi is western. It's just a different format.
I think they have developed the character very nicely and it's gone exactly as it was planned to happen.
I think it's the business part of the word show business that causes me the most concern.
I try not to make plans. Because, even the best laid plans etc. etc.
At the end of the day, whenever that may come, some people are going to remember me as Data. My only hope is that I've just done enough other work to kind of balance it a little bit. I don't want to erase it, certainly, because I feel fine about the work.
Everyone I've ever known in my life, or seen, or met, or loved, or hated, is at risk of being destroyed. That's a pretty big chunk of fear, and I think that's what we are all dealing with, if we don't save the day.
My own personal favorite Cher song is the unforgettable Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.
In my heart, I've never left Brazil.
You know The Original Series costumes were made by the actors mothers!
Yeah, I do like X-Files. I like the ones that star David Duchovny.
I think the potential for man is so enormous, if we can stay alive long enough, we're going to be seeing a lot of what Star Trek is projecting.
I really think that success in this field is about tenacity and just sticking with it.
You know, I'm not sure that all kids aren't performers. Everybody plays cowboys and Indians – it just depends on how seriously you play it.
With the state of the world today, an alien intervention might be just what the doctor ordered. ... Threshold.
And I think it's likely that there will be Data's out there one day. I hope so, if there are, that they all look exactly like me!
Data is no different from any other role I've ever played in that it's always difficult and it's always something that you just want to find some level of truth and believability in and try to solve problems along the way.
I think it's likely that there will be Data's out there one day. I hope so, if there are, that they all look exactly like me!
Mad About You.
I'm an avid biography reader.
It;s always challenging to try to make a scene work- to make something you think would be interesting to watch.
Brent: "...I'm not much of a cook, to be honest with you."
Question: Microwave-type person?
Brent: "I'm not even a microwave-type person. I'm a 'Let's see, do you have a menu? I'll have the... ' I really don't cook at all. I do make coffee..."
Question: Do you like cappuccino? Café mocha?
Brent: "No, I'm talking about those filter packs that you put in the cold water."
Question: You put water in those little packs?
Brent: "I told you I'm not much of a cook."
We're going to discover as time goes on that there is some adversity ... They are not in love with each other. These three guys were essentially . . . made to do this job, whether they want to or not.
Having spent so much time in a fictional world, I prefer to read about the real world.
Any job you can go to and have a laugh everyday has got to be a good job.
Is that the first full house laugh you've ever had? It's a wonderful experience, isn't it? If you're anything like me, you will be on the stage before you know it.
Generally, I have to be able to get the lines out of my mouth without making a mistake before I go to sleep.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Data was the comic relief on the show.
I think the idea, from the beginning, was that Data was a machine that basically teaches himself everything he experiences and sees becomes a part of his programming.
A Klingon says to Brent in a Klingon voice "Sorry about the Enterprise."
Brent: "We've got more of them where that one came from."
Well my family and friends where delighted that I was going to be working on a regular basis and that they could turn on their TV every week and see me.
And, you know, when you are a kid, everybody wants to be an actor. I think that everybody wants to be in show business, frankly.
I think he is a bit of an outsider: he doesn't quite fit in, he doesn't quite belong, and people relate to that idea of being an outsider and being alienated.
The two Spots we work with now, are the two finest actors I have ever worked with.
I think as time has gone on, they've been pleased to find it not at all limiting role and probably the most wide open role in terms of what I am allowed to do.
People think that being on Star Trek is career suicide, but it's really just the opposite.
I like coming to work every day and hanging out with 50 or 60 people who are a lot of fun to be around.
You remember the Picard Maneuver? We call it, where he would pull down the front of his...(Brent tugs his shirt to demonstrate) Well, everybody started doing that. Well I, of course, couldn't do it because it would leave a gold hand print on my... (laughter) So I had to get very in-depth at never touching myself... (lots of laughter) I have to say, uh, please they're children in the room. That's bled over into my personal life and I haven't touched myself now in eight years.
And I think that was the idea: by the end of the series, Data would ba about as close to human but still not be there.

Happy Birthday Clark Gable!
The only reason they come to see me is that I know that life is great, and they know I know it.
It is an extra dividend when you like the girl you've fallen in love with.
Everything Marilyn does is different from any other woman, strange and exciting, from the way she talks to the way she uses that magnificent torso.
Zurück zum Stummfilm.
Hell, if I'd jumped on all the dames I'm supposed to have jumped on, I'd have had no time to go fishing.
I'm just a lucky slob from Ohio who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Happy Birthday Karl Dall!

Happy Birthday Peter Millowitsch!
Ah, was waren wir begeistert.
