Ich spiele ja eine Melkerin, keinen Bauern. Aber weder das eine noch das andere sind für mich Traumberufe. Es sind interessante Berufe, weil sie mit etwas Realem zu tun haben. Ich wäre wohl lieber Bauer als Investmentbanker.

Faul ist, glaube ich, wirklich das Gegenteil von mir! Manchmal komme ich mir vielleicht etwas privilegiert vor.  

Wenn du als Schauspieler ein paar Jahre gearbeitet hast und dich abstrampelst, hast du ganz schnell begriffen, dass zum Erfolg nicht nur Talent gehört sondern auch eine gehörige Portion an Fleiß und Disziplin.

Ich kenne viele Schauspieler, die den Beruf schon sehr lange und sehr erfolgreich machen und faul ist von denen keiner.

Ja, im echten Leben ist es oft so, dass Frauen mehr davon träumen, für alle Ewigkeit Prinzessin zu sein und die Männer leben eher für den Moment.  

Ich hatte keine großen Erwartungen. Ich wollte einfach nicht gebremst werden, ich wollte machen, was ich will, auch wenn mir schon klar ist, dass auch in dieser Gesellschaft bestimmte Grenzen automatisch in Kraft treten.

Ich glaube, es war ein Wechselspiel. Die DDR-Bands, die ich mochte, kamen aus demselben Umfeld. So entstand die stille Übereinkunft, dass in der Musik versteckt, alles angesprochen wurde, was uns nervte, vom Liebeskummer bis zur Obrigkeit mit ihren Reise- und Meinungsverboten.  

Wir haben erwartet und erhofft, etwas zwischen den Zeilen zu finden. Ich weiß noch, wie ich bei jeder neuen Silly-LP gesucht habe, welche Aufmüpfigkeiten sie an der Zensur vorbeibringen konnten.

Natürlich ist Musik immer auch ein Spiegel ihrer Zeit. Und gerade die lyrische Arbeit der Ostbands hat über die Jahre einen Dreh bekommen, den es im Westen nicht gab.

Heute gibt es die Mentalität, zu jedem Lied zu sagen, was es sagen soll. Ich mag das nicht. Ich will, dass der Zuhörer zum Teil des kreativen Prozesses wird, durch seine Interpretation.  

Ein Song, der ohne Erläuterung nicht wirkt, ist tot. Dann funktioniert die Kunst nicht mehr.

Ich habe Wert darauf gelegt, dieses Mal selbst Texte beizusteuern, und ich bin, würde ich sagen, ein sehr politischer und kritischer Mensch.

Ich habe auch die Texte von unserem alten Texter aus einem großen Stapel ausgesucht und bin sicher, dass das kritische Gefühl, das im Herzen von uns vier Sillys liegt, sich auf der neuen Platte entdecken lässt.

Silly hat sich nie mit Tagespolitik beschäftigt, sondern mit Kritik an der Gesellschaft insgesamt.

Sicher, heute werden Texte mehr eins zu eins gehört. Aber es ist doch auch toll, so offen sein zu können wie wir auf der neuen CD, etwa im Song „Vaterland“: „Wir bringen für Geld den Tod in die Welt. Wie lieb ich so ein Land, mit Herz oder Verstand?“ Das hätte man früher nicht schreiben und aufführen können.

I directed an early episode of 'Supernatural' the first season called 'Skin.'

The comedy in 'Star Trek' is always very subtle, if it's there at all.

The first season, 'Supernatural' was very anthology-like. It was like a scary story of the week that the brothers would solve.

One week, you can have a real heavy romance 'Chuck' episode, and the next week it can be some kind of murdery mystery. It's not like doing a procedural.

Rick told me at the end of the audition process for Quark that the part had been written for me but I still had to try out for it. I was thrilled when I heard that they were doing a third Star Trek series, Deep Space Nine, but when I discovered they were also going to have a regular Ferengi character in it I was determined to get the part. I’ve always been a big fan of the show and the idea of my possibly making a bigger contribution to the Trek myth other than my work on The Next Generation really appealed to me.

I’m particularly proud of the fifth season story ‘Business As Usual’ because it shows Quark as much more of a thinking, deeper person in the sense that he has a real problem to solve.

There are a number of episodes in which he must face moral dilemmas, such as ‘Bar Association’ and ‘Looking for Par’mach in All the Wrong Places.’ I always saw Quark as much more of a dramatic character than the show’s writers, who always saw him as sort of comic relief. They did give me some dramatic episodes, but there was always a lot of comedy mixed in.
